- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set it aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt. Cook while stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a deep golden color (8-10 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Quickly pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread into an even layer.
- Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the warm toffee and let sit for a minute to melt.
- Use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- If desired, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top of the chocolate.
- Allow the toffee to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
Notes
To store, place in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks or refrigerate for up to a month.
