- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup dried fruit (such as cranberries, raisins, or mixed fruit)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warmed milk, melted butter, and eggs.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Incorporate the dried fruit and nuts.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the loaf in a greased bread pan and allow it to rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with butter, cream cheese, or fruit preserves. Can also be toasted with powdered sugar for a special treat.
